Embedded systems with application-specific instruction set processors are often used in nowadays digital devices. The processors are highly optimized for a given task allowing better features of the devices. Therefore, one needs to have good tools helping with designing of these processors. Since the processor design and optimization is an iterative process, the tools should be generated in automatic way from a processor description. In this paper, the Lissom project is presented. It provides a whole integrated desktop environment for processors and multiprocessors systems design. The processors are described using architecture description language which was developed in the project.

Project Description:
Funding ID: FT-TA3/128 - Language and development environment for microprocessor design, FR-TI1/038 - System for programming and realization of embedded systems, ARTEMIS SMECY, Research Plan No. MSM, 0021630528 - Security-Oriented Research in Information Technology Description: When an embedded system is designed using an Electronic system level methodology, usually one general-purpose processor core with several application-specific instruction set processors (ASIPs) is used. These processors are highly optimized for a given task. Therefore, one needs to have good tools helping with designing of these processors. Since the processor design and optimization is an iterative process, the tools should be generated in an automatic way from a processor description. The Lissom project provides a whole integrated desktop environment for processor and multi-processor systems design. Processor cores are described using architecture description language which was developed in the project.
